Sorry if this has been asked before but I have been searching the internet for a definitive answer and as yet haven't found what I'm looking for.

A while ago I purchased a second hand PSP which already had Dark Alex's 3.10 OE-A installed. This has been fantastic and has allowed me to play the old emulated games without hassle. I am now considering the PSP wifi option after recently buying a wifi router and I just wondered if I set up the PSP for wifi if there is any risk of it automatically updating to the latest official firmware Sony release?

I'm really worried about accidentally updating the firmware and then not being able to get my custom firmware back and wasn't sure about connecting wirelessly with this in mind . Does the PSP ask you if you want to update to the latest firmware version like the PS3 does? As long as it won't automatically update when I set up the wifi and I can continue using my homebrew stuff on DA's 3.10OE-A then I don't mind but wanted to make sure before attempting.

My other question is there any way of registering a PSP with custom firmware such as DA's 3.10OE-A with a Playstation 3? I read somewhere that you had to have an official firmware release in order to register and link a PSP to a Playstation 3 is this correct and is there anyway around this to get my PSP registered to my PS3?

Many thanks for any help or advice you can offer.

If you install 3.80M33 or newer firmware the "Network Update" icon will install the newest M33 rather than $ony firmware. Or, if you prefer, the Custom Firmware Extender will let you turn the Network Update icon (among others) into a shortcut to any game/homebrew you want. Fear not, Dark-AleX and company have taken care of everything.
(M33 = Dark-AleX btw)

Hi

Thanks for the response, this sounds exactly what I need. As this is the first time I have updated the firmware on my PSP is there any chance you could list the steps I would need to follow to update my PSP from 3.10 OE-A to 3.80M33?

Can I just download 3.80M33 and just upgrade straight from 3.10 OE-A or are there additional steps I would need to do first before I can get up to 3.80M33? I really want to do this as this new version firmware sounds exactly what I need but I'm petrified of bricking my PSP and ending up with nothing which is the last thing I want to do! Not having done this before I don't know where to start or if downloading and running the 3.80M33 firmware update will work straight off from 3.10 OE-A.

Cheers again for your help, I'm slowly getting up to speed.
