i hate to be posting in the "noobie" threads, as i have a lot of experience with PSP modding, been with it since the 1.5's were new. but ive never seen this before. a friend came to me with a partially bricked PSP. - any time he would try to save a game or enter text, the PSP would lock up, creating an odd chain of error numbers and events. the most common error numbers were 80082731, and 80082739 . on the rare occasion the system would let us access the text entry, the readout in the bottom right showing which characters could be selected on that key were glitchy, or missing, and text could only actually be entered by pressing X a small part of the time. i used my experience to help him, did a lumines downgrade first, then a 3.52 M33 update. the problem remained. i then made a Pandora memory stick, and a Pandora battery, and a DDC memstick. [of course by now i had attempted to format flash1 multiple times, with no luck, in fact once i got to the name select part it would just fail all over again] on the advice of a friend and following all instructions to the letter, i did a fresh Pandora-style install of 3.80 M33. even this didn't fix it. although it seemed to have a small effect on improving the stability of the system, but only for a few text entries. both me and one of my more experienced friends seem to think that without a backup of the NAND there isnt much i can do. so my question is
1: does anyone know a method to fix this?
and 2- if nobody does, does anyone have any experience with modifying a NAND to work between 2 PSP's?
[i DO have 2 psp's at my disposal. 1 good one running 2.90 M33, and this unstable, but bootable one] i have narrowed the issue down to the dictionary files being somehow corrupt, even though the 3.8 reflash should have fixed it, it didn't.

searching the web i have found a few other people havign a similar problem, and no results for a solution, and they have pretty much tried all the same things i have.

-side note: ONE PSP is displaying the problem, BOTH PSP's are fatties, running the same motherboard, purchased before even 2.0 firmware was around., and BOTH PSP's are on custom 3.xx M33 firmware at this moment in time. i also have 5 memsticks at my disposal. two 32, one 512, and two 2 gigs. the 512 does work with DDC, and is my current pandora/DDC card.
both batteries are the originals packaged with the system, and handle pandora/DDC fine.

First try dumping and checking the keys With keycleaner. Make a backup of the dump both before and after attempting to fix them (note that a missing key47 is perfectly normal on an old 79/81). If fixing the keys doesn't fix the problem the U.P.M.S. installer is capable of installing a "clean" nand, after which you would need to re-install the keys (try the un-fixed dump first). If you did the full install of U.P.M.S. you should have all the tools you need.

hmm.. sounds like an idea i havnt heard yet.. and it certainlyl makes sense. i'd like to hop onto an AIM chat or something sometime to get it all squared away. my AIM name is Zarphus, and thanks!

btw, i tried key cleaner before trying the pandora fixes.

Can anybody confirm what the resolution to this is?

Sorry for the old thread bump.

i'm afraid i was never able to solve the issue. i installed the newest custom firmware, told him i couldnt do any more for it, and that was that. even key cleaners completely failed. the only thing i didnt try[because it felt too risky] was to attempt to load a clean NAND.

reinstalling/downgrading firmwares and reformatting flash1 all failed.
all key cleaners brought similar results to a reinstall of firmware. little to no imporvement.
my final conclusion is either attempt to install a clean NAND somehow, or put some official firmware back on it and send it to sony.

Oh... I suggest taking it back.
Nothing worse can happen :p

Either you can brick the current PSP.
Or get a new one, Which has a chance to work with Pandora. :)

Or buy a used one in good condition.
