View Full Version : 1.50 kernel addon version 2 for 3.90 M33 released!

Get it below or at www.dark-alex.org

Instructions. Copy to /PSP/GAME and run.

Changes:

- TA086: when being in 4th brightness level and recovering from sleep mode, the display was black. Fixed.
- Added support in the 1.50 kernel for memory sticks greater than 4 GB. (I finally got my 8GB card! :D)
Before, only the first 4 GB portion was recognized by the 1.5 kernel.
Now, the theroetical limit is 4GB*512 = 2 Terabytes. ("only" 1 TB, if sony were using signed variables).

There is no need to. You just need the 150.PBP at root, which i forgot to say in readme.

Ok.. quick question here.

Am I mistaken to believe that Despertar del Cementerio v4 uses the 1.5 kernel ?? If so, does a further version of this nice little app would be able to support 8 gb sticks ?? The problem is that if I want to create a magic stick on my 8gb card (yes, it works, I've unbricked lot's of psp with it !!) I have to whipe the whole content and then, install DC v4 with the usual files. If I'm not proceeding that way, DC won't be able to see any files and "Pandora ELF Menu" by jas0nuk won't be able to load any elf files.

I'm asking the question here as the post is about the 1.5 kernel and the support of the 8gb sticks ;)

It will be added in a future version of DC along with a new ipl that will not require mspformat.

Anyways, here i leave you this prx. Copy it to /kd folder; and in all pspbtcnf*.txt file, add the following line "/kd/mspatch.prx" after the line "/kd/msstor.prx". This prx can also be used to compatibilize the big cards with all things that use a 1.50 kernel (the addons of 3.71-3.80, the 1.5 kernel part of 2.71SE-3.52M33) using the same process described. (copying to km instead of kd in 3.71-3.80 addons)

If I get this right: this patch adds compability for 8 GB sticks on 1.50 kernel for all previous DAX's CFs?

If i updrage to 3.80, would the automatic Firmware Upgrader (Wi-Fi) update to 3.90?

Thanks.

If I get this right: this patch adds compability for 8 GB sticks on 1.50 kernel for all previous DAX's CFs?

yeah if you follow the instructions right. However in 2.71 SE-3.03 OE-B, the support wouldn't be in recovery but only in homebrew, but in the rest of firmwares the support would be complete.

Thanks a lot DA for all those amazing CFW. I just ordered an 8 GB memory stick, and to be honest I wasn't aware of the 4 GB limit :) (I just thought that the filesystem was limiting the file sizes to 4 GB, not that the upper part of the partition was ignored).

So it seems you're saving me on this one, great timing ! ^_^

Thanks again!

Well, the limit is in 1.5-2.71 kernels. Back in those times there weren't 8 GB cards and Sony programmers probably didn't realize what seems to have been a mistake and not an intenional limit.

Oh BTW Alex, I read earlier in this topic that this addon may be compatible with previous custom firmwares. Due to the problem of MS lag, I sticked to 3.71 M33.
Do you think I could just run this addon on my PSP and it would work (I don't want to take the risk of bricking it ;)) ? Or will it require 3.90 to run?

Thanks.

if had only 3.90m33 without 1.5 addon, wouldn't i be able to use 8gig card in my psp??

I mean, what is difference for example between 3.90m33, 3.90m33+1.50_addon.v1 and 3.90m33+1.50_addon.v2 in using 8-gig MS??

3.90 kernel don't have the 8 GB problem, the problem was in 1.5 kernel, and thus, only affected 1.5 homebrew. (if the homebrew was in the second 4 gb portion, it wasn't bootingl).

To have everything working fine on 1.50 kernel mode WITH a 8gb memory stick, you need indeed the version 2 of the 1.5 addon.

:o

Well, they were using a certain 64 bits variable that hold the sector offset to seek for in the memory stick raw device. When they multiplied the sector by 512 to check if the byte offset was correct, the variable was smalled down to 32 bits, and 32 bits can only hold 4GB of data (when the unit is the byte).

To begin with, using byte units when anyways only sectors can be seeked is a stupid thing. But the other stupid thing was that crappy multiplication they did mixing 32 bits and 64 bits vars.

The patch just repaces the function that validates if a seek position is correct by one of myself that does the 64 bits multiplication by 512 properly.

Which 64bit datatype is used? Very curious.

Hmmm.. weird thing here.

I just updated my psp to 3.90 M33 and installed the 1.50 kernel patch v2. I'm trying to run a homebrew that is located in the Game150 directory but when I start it, I get the following error : "This game cannot be started. The data is corrupted." Doesn't have any error number or anything else, just the plain message.

Note that I have a 8 gig memory stick, genuine and there is like 27 mb left on it. Is the error caused by the data (the homebrew tried is the snes9x port by Ruka)

Anyone with the same issue ?

Edit : I tried 2 different versions of the file, get the same behaviour.

DarkAngel88
02-11-2008, 09:54 PM
Hmmm.. I just tried something else :

I copied another 1.5 homebrew that works under both kernels (1.5 and 3.xx, it's NesterJ). After getting the same error when the homebrew was in the GAME150 directory, I moved it to the GAME3xx folder and now, I have the same error with NesterJ, error that I didn't had before moving the homebrew to the 150 directory. Like said earlier, my card is almost full (2x mb free) so it might be related...

Will mspatch.rar work on a 3.52 M33 PSP with this memory stick (That's the oldest firmware I use, I have two with 3.90 M33 and one with 4.01 M33-2).

Is the memory stick here here (http://cgi.ebay.com/SONY-16GB-Memory-Stick-PRO-Duo-Mark-2-II-FREE-CASE_W0QQitemZ220289812635QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item 220289812635&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C 240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) real or fake?
