Sony: PlayTV is only intented for use with limited number of European countries

A MaxConsole reader has forwarded us a reply from Sony regarding PlayTV's lack of compatibility with some countries across Europe. Sony responded by stating that the device does not support the DVB-T MPEG-4 standard but may be updated in the future. However, Play TV is designed for use within the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain so all you other Europeans will just have to be screwed for a bit longer until Sony sorts out things, IF they ever do...

Sony's comment on the matter:

"
I can confirm that PlayTV does not currently support the DVB-T mpeg-4
standard but does have the potential to be updated in the future.
Please note that PlayTV is presently only intended for use within UK,
France, Italy, Germany and Spain with functionality for other regions
still in development. Due to this, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe
is unable to guarantee functionality when used outside of these
countries. Announcements regarding support for PlayTV in your region
will be available through eu.playstation.com/ as this information
comes available.
