From a business view, he expects that getting just 2 million to 'upgrade' from the $60 package could give MS an increased revenue of $80 million. News has hit that a hacker by the name of 'Reaver' has released a tool (PS3ISO2JB) that will convert PS3 ISO's into images that are compatible with PSJailbreak. Previously, PSJailbreak's game compatibility was near limited to those games backed up directly from the disc. However, this tool blows that apart and could well be the start of a thriving 'release group' scene, leaking many pirated PS3 titles that now actually work on hacked systems. Seems like news just goes from very bad to extremely worse from Sony in just a matter of days. Please do not link to the respective file. * Update* Some are indicating this tool is a fake, so therefore it is important to be very weary of it even if you are a filthy pirate.

Square Enix has revealed its new next-gen game engine... Luminous. The boss told those interested that the goal is to create an engine capable of taking on the world 'head on'. It packs in all the old Eidos technology that was introduced in an earlier session and is a general purpose environment geared towards 'efficiency' and 'quality'.

After a bit of speculation, Nintendo has confirmed the existance of a game called Super Mario Collection Special Pack. Secheduled for an October 21st release, the title is expected to be a revival of All-Stars, also known in Japan as Super Mario Collection. Thus, it is expected that Super Mario Bros, Mario 2 Mario 3 and Super Mario USA will be included. Moreover, booklets and a soundtrack CD could well be integrated somewhere within this special edition.

To clear up confusion, it has come to our attention that the name of the back-up enabled version of PSGroove has been dubbed 'Open PSJailbreak'. It's just a fork of the PSGroove exploit but will clear up confusion on what exploit does what. They currently have a Twitter page on their developments too.

Some really interesting information has surfaced regarding CoD Black Ops. Gamers will now be able to practice multiplayer offline instead of just trying to improve their skills in single player mode. Of more interest though is the new 'Wager' mode that allows gamers to bet their CoD points for more against other gamers. The way it works is that the top three players are able to claim the points available and can put that towards purchasing new equipment or improving their respective ranks.

A Sony exec dropped the note that a PS3 3D Blu-ray update will hit the PS3 in October. Previously it was expected that the update would hit in September. Although hackers of the PS3 may find this useful because perhaps the next 'big' update for the PS3 has been scheduled for October. Time will tell...

The WSJ posed the question to MS of how they will drive revenue for the Xbox 360 in China when there are notoriously high piracy rates. MS responded on the matter by denoting that games and hardware will drive revenue sales and this hinges on Xbox LIVE. As Mr Leung explained, MS can do authenticication with LIVE thus ensuring legitimate gamers.
